About Me

A New Jersey native, Lizzie Finn-- writer, director, and producer—launched her career in the East Coast independent film scene. She filled a myriad of crew roles (script supervisor, assistant director, assistant editor) on films produced by Kevin Smith’s View Askew Productions (A Better Place, Big Helium Dog, Vulgar) and was hired by Tapestry TV as a segment writer on Discovery’s Emmy-winning educational series Greatest Inventions with Bill Nye. Lizzie is currently the Development Director for Last Stop Productions and has several projects (shorts, features, TV pilots) slated for production.

As a script consultant/creativity coach, Lizzie uses the Gateless Writing methodology to nurture each writer's intuitive gifts and help them access the state of flow while decreasing writer’s block and resistance. In 2020, she launched a screenwriting academy at Project Write Now (a non-profit writing organization) in Red Bank, NJ, to provide education, support, and networking opportunities. Lizzie is also part of an innovative arts curriculum that brings screenwriting to middle school students.

Lizzie’s passion for storytelling comes from the desire to honor creativity as a conscious calling. Whether writing a supernatural horror story…a gritty coming-of-age drama…or a light-hearted holiday romcom, Lizzie aims to take the audience on an unexpected journey of self-discovery and enlightenment.

She lives at the Jersey Shore, where she can often be seen walking her dog at sunset, earning her the nickname “Sunset Woman.”

Script Consulting

I provide script coverage using the Gateless Writing methodology. In Gateless Writing, we strive to generously build the writer up rather than tear the writing down. When we focus on genius, anything that is not working tends to fall away organically. It is from this position that the writer feels energized and is able to create more exciting work than they ever thought possible.

Gateless Writing is based on neuroscience. Studies show that creativity often comes to a screeching halt when self-protection (fight or flight) is activated by criticism or critique. Creative risk begins to feel dangerous, and the work becomes imitative rather than innovative. Often, the writer becomes blocked or stuck.

The goal of Gateless feedback is to deter resistance and encourage and support the state of flow.

I have been teaching an intensive year-long Screenplay Incubator program for four years and providing script coverage for over a decade. I know how to support writers so they cross the finish line, and stay true to their voice and vision.

Gateless Questions to Consider:

1.Where does the work have energy?

2. What words and ideas are particularly powerful and moving?

3. Where is the craft masterful and seamless?

4. Where is the writing/vision/voice unique?

5. Where does the narrator take risks with the writing?
